SOURCE LITERACY GUIDE

How live TV channel listings are reviewed

A channel can be correctly identified while its stream is temporarily offline—and a working stream does not by itself establish ownership or permission. Reliable directories keep those questions separate.

FIVE SEPARATE QUESTIONS

What does a reviewed listing actually tell you?

A complete review asks who the channel is, where the factual description came from, which public stream is currently listed, whether that source responded during a health check, and whether Tele24Seven has any separate written permission record. One answer does not automatically prove the others.

1. Channel identity

Names can collide across countries, local affiliates, languages, and temporary feeds. Identity is resolved using stable catalogue IDs, country-aware names, official web references, logos, network relationships, and reviewed aliases. Similar spelling alone is not enough.

2. Broadcaster and programme facts

Claims about ownership, language, audience, and programme themes should come from broadcaster-controlled material or another attributable reference. A playlist title is useful discovery data, but it is not automatically an authoritative corporate source.

3. Technical stream listing

A current HLS or DASH location means the catalogue contains a route associated with the channel. It does not prove permanent uptime, worldwide availability, or continuous broadcast hours. The provider can change a token, manifest, codec, CDN, or access policy at any time.

4. Health check

A health probe can detect timeouts, invalid manifests, HTML challenge pages, unexpected content types, or missing segments. It is a point-in-time diagnostic, not a permanent certification. Repeated failures trigger editorial review rather than an automatic claim that a network no longer exists.

5. Permission or rights record

Public availability and written permission are separate. When a broadcaster provides authorization, the useful record identifies the channel, approved source, permitted playback method, territories, branding conditions, and how permission can be updated or withdrawn.

How Tele24Seven communicates the result

Reviewed pages show the source type, catalogue date, technical format, official reference, known schedule or geography labels, and clear limitations. Read the full methodology or submit a correction through the contact page.
